OK, problem solved, I'll just send my mother a Ubuntu disk and a JTAG
programmer, she'll get on fine...
Really, as an electrical engineer, who in is career has never ever had a
requirement to use JTAG then that is a large speed bump for me - I'd have to
make/buy the kit and do some reading up. Not something to do on a whim. The
point is, it is not about the hurdles being easy to overcome if you have the
knowledge and the kit - it is about not having hurdles in the first place.

For personal use I would consider using the JTAG interface or removing the BIOS
chip to reprogram it but that is not for the inexperienced.
