I was thinking more along the lines of something actually patentable, like a
particular method of voice recognition, but I suppose a particular new and
non-obvious method of printing a resume might work.
I assumed that part of the analogy was clear from the context.

You said (in a nut shell) I bought as computer, it can be programmed, therefore
I can program it to do anything I want.
My point is no you can't, not if you want to program it to do something
patented.
This is similar to the fact that you can buy a printing press but you can't
print anything you want, even though the press you be set up to print anything
you want. For example, you cant print 5 pound notes and you cant print Harry
