Eh. I think it is cold and calculated. Sometimes it is just
the executive deciding to maximize his/her paycheck. (I've
seen a lot of people lie through their teeth about the
market potential of a project they're hired to research.)
Similarly, if your company's only product is a lawsuit...and
you'll be fired when it fails...drawing the lawsuit out as
much as possible makes a lot of sense.
Other times (Oracle), the lawsuit is mostly
publicity/distraction - wasting the time of the executive
team in the other company. That succeeded. (Plus a shot at
beellions...)
