Well...let's start with 'evil'. And use a definition like
'actions taken that clearly decrease net utility while
increasing Google's utility.' ('clearly decreasing net
utility while decreasing Google's net utility' is
stupidity.)
1. Overall, in my judgement, Google's bundled services
provide more utility than any single service. Not a whole
ton more, but a bit. (I like being able to post baby
pictures from mobile phone to my family circle, and like
having their email addresses pop up in G+.) Would it be
better to have a ton of clearly-defined interfaces and allow
substitution of different email programs, eg? Clearly yes.
However, apathy is somewhat distinct from evil. However,
remembering the 'platforms' menu, this seeming apathy may
not exactly be chosen.
2. For the mobile phone...many people are too lazy to back
up Google Apps information. For those people, having
multiple recovery options for their accounts is a good,
good, good, good thing. (Decent customer service would be
nice too...but would quickly become a net utility loss...as
advertising revenue won't support it.)
