Well, he may be described as that but to anyone with any knowledge he comes over
as what in fact he.
A paid mouthpiece and shill for some of the nastiest and
disreputable corporations in IT.
As for the comments about the BBC quoting him
at length, just look who the "Technology Correspondent" is, Rory Cellan-Jones.
See also his description of being a "coder"
here
I think that
shows the depth, or lack of, real knowledge of the IT industry at the BBC. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

It's my impression that his online "news" channel has
narrowed somewhat over the past two months, judging by the
number of news articles quoting or linking to him.
Of course it could just be a slowdown in news related to his
"consultancy", but I note that columns that quote him are apt
to point out his connections to Microsoft and Oracle. That's
progress!

The Register is *slowly* getting better.
They used to quote him ad nauseam, with no effort whatsoever at critical
analysis. I've had some out-of-band correspondence with one "journo"
there, and they're starting to realise how badly they've been strung along.
It's nice to see so many people from here doing the "Stop quoting
Florian" thing in the comments every time, though :-)

How prolix, when the language contains such simple and accurate terms,
"shill" for example...[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
