This is almost exactly how copyright is already defined
around the world.
The "author" has the "exclusive rights" to do anything with
the product, and thus the right to stop/sue anyone else
doing so without their permission.
And these rights can be sold to a professional publisher of
any kind, which is traditionally how recording artists get
paid.
Interesting things happen when there is doubt as to which
party bought the rights, like if a star performs at a venue,
is it the star, the venue, the record label or the sheet
music publisher who owns the right to recordings of the
show?
