Others here have in the past expressed the point clearer
than I can. DRM is basically a deception. It is
overwhelming a hinderance to people who legitimately use
software. Crackers have a field day with it.
My biggest headache is MS's Windows "update" audit. In the
years since I voluntarily participated in the beta of
"genuine Windows" program, the audit program has hijacked
hours of high priority CPU cycles on my ancient XP laptop.
Evidently MS is unable or unwilling to "learn" that my copy
of XP is legitimate (even though it came directly from
them), which makes one wonder what the real purpose of the
audit program is.
For a time it would regularly drain my battery when I'd
start up this particular laptop at Starbucks or similar;
before I could get online I'd be dead in the water. (So
that laptop stopped being useful as a laptop.)
regards, hm
