Triviality
Authored by: Anonymous on Sunday, August 05 2012 @ 12:12 PM EDT
Maybe this fits within your definition of what the problem is,
but a LOT of the programming skills (as opposed to the design
skills) has to do with figuring out the "what if" conditions
of the code and properly handling them.
This whole range check stuff is less than trivial. Any
legitimate programmer should be doing this kind of
"programming" in their sleep!

Functionality
Authored by: Anonymous on Sunday, August 05 2012 @ 06:55 PM EDT
And the degree to which a complete spec may result in substantially the same
code is a measure of the degree to which the code is functional, not expressive
and hence copyrightable. The expressiveness in a range check implementation
boils down to a very small number of binary choices; it's no more expressive
than any given two digit number.
