Common Desktop Environment released as LGPL
Authored by: cjk fossman on Monday, August 06 2012 @ 08:17 PM EDT
There was something called Common User Access in the mid
1980's. Of my own knowledge I seem to recall both IBM and
Microsoft were involved; there may have been others. My
first encounter with CDE, on the other hand, was with X
terminals on HP boxen.

At the time I was working on a project that wanted to
implement CUA on mainframe systems using 3270 terminals and
3270 emulation. Needless to say, there was a lot of
reliance on shortcut key combinations. F1 for help, for
example, except on a 3270 it's PF1, for 'programmable
function.'

I think I've said it before. Those 3270 keyboards were the
nicest computer keyboards I have ever used; better even than
the old PC boards.
