Thank you so, so much for that video. It solves the
mystery. I added it to the article. If you want
credit by name or nym, just say so.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Interesting. The Google Market icon shown in that video is rectangular. Well,
it's like a briefcase with the handle so rectangular with handle. If they show
the Google navigation app, they would have a triangular icon.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Excuse me, but although Jon is an outstanding reviewer, his
demo devices are not true out of box experience, that
consumers get. Not only that, but that was an already updated
OS obviously!
So here's a video of the actual "Out of Box" Experience for
the Sprint Epic 4G. That is completely uncontaminated by human
hands prior to doing first boot. Obviously you are seeing this
guy pull all the plastic film off the device to prove that.
Without the OS update, the home screen indicator dots are at
the top and notice the Google Search box Widget isn't
installed yet. That's not done until after you activate it or
at least bring up the App Store and enter your gmail account
or possibly by clicking the soft button search icon in the
launcher.
If you click on Search, it will naturally bring up the
browser. But it will not install the Search Widget until you
have entered your email account for the App Store to work and
enable custom searches in the Search Widget:

At 5:44 we see the apps page. That is not the main home-page nor even a
home-page. It is a completely different page and has prior art in the shape of
Windows Control Panel (XP and previous).
You can set up a home page like an iPhone, just by selecting only small widgets
and filling the screen with them. But no Android device I have ever seen came
like that out of the box. The closest approach was this Vodafone S3 I have here,
where the first synch installed all the apps off my old phone and filled a
home-page and a half with them. But it wasn't the main home-page, and it wasn't
a true out-of-the-box thing.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
