My first reaction was that the question was irrelevant, but then I realized that
he was thinking about Samsung being a Korean company, the coincidence of Judge
Koh being the first Korean-American Federal judge, and was asking about this new
lawyer on the Samsung side.
I do still think that it is pretty irrelevant. Most Americans have some family
ethnic background :). People would usually not think twice if a Federal judge
happened to sit on a case in which one side was a corporation based in their
family country of origin. And a big fancy law firm like Quinn Emanuel would
probably choose the lawyers to try a case based on expertise and experience
rather than whether they are from the same country as their corporate client,
unless perhaps the case requires a particular expertise in the laws, customs, or
practices of that country.
