Does the fact that the patent mentions "four rounded corners" when in
fact
there are eight corners on the device invalidate the patent?[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

If you go to the atomic level, all corners are rounded. If you are using a STM
to map the surface, it is finding something like the Fermi level as a function
of position. Where atoms are neighbouring each other, the surface is in general
undulating. But at a corner (2 or 3D), one just follows a curve until one
starts traversing the "other surface".

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-08-15/australia-top-court-upholds-tobacco-pla
in-packaging-legislation.html
A world-first law
requiring tobacco companies to sell cigarettes in uniform packaging was upheld
by Australia's top court, a ruling that may set a precedent for other countries
to follow.
The High Court dismissed today claims by Japan Tobacco
Inc. (2914), British American Tobacco Plc (BATS), Philip Morris International
Inc. (PM) and Imperial Tobacco Group Plc (IMT) that the Australian government
illegally seized their intellectual property by prohibiting the display of
trademarks on packs. The judges gave no reasons for the majority decision and
said they would be published later.[...]
The Australian law requires
cigarettes to be sold with no company logos and with the same font for all
brands on a dark brown background. Graphic health warnings will cover 90 percent
of the back of the package and 70 percent of the front.
Do we dare
hoping that this will set a precedent for mobile phones too? Somewhat rounded
corners, for safety, to ease it for Mac users. Somewhat dull colors, black or
light beige for Win users. Somewhat geeky functionalities for Linux users? Would
that be too much?

I distinctly remember having a small chalk board in the late 1950's. It was
somewhere in the neighborhood of 8 x 10 inches and had a wooden frame with
rounded corners of about a one inch radius.
