Thanks for posting that. I have made a modest donation. I suffer from cancer
myself, and here in the UK, very expensive drugs, surgery etc are free to
everyone. Our NHS is a bit of a mess, as it has become too fragmented, due to
political meddling over very many years, and I recently had to spend time in two
diferent hospitals as a result, but it does get the job done, and relatively
cheaply compared to the actual costs associated with a private system which is
even more fragmented. I think it is extremely sad that medical expenses are so
high in the US, leaving many people trapped in the middle, having too much money
to qualify for free treatment and too little to afford paid-for treatment.
Actually, it fills me with disgust that a developed country treats many of its
citizens so badly. As far as I understand, Obama tried to fix some of that but
was obstructed by the far right, who apparently want to go even further after
the next election and remove what Obama did achieve. It disgusts me even more
that people actually vote for, and elect, governments like that, who deny basic
rights to others. Perversely, it seems that some of the people who are
continually disadvantaged by the actions of the Republican party are their most
energetic supporters. I know we don't do politics here, so I can't complain if
this post gets "moderated", but I think we all do care about health, and have at
least some sense of fairness towards others. Politics which deprives people of
proper health care, and other basic rights, makes my blood boil. Actually, in
all fairness, I don't like any kind of politics, but some have a worse effect
than others on ordinary people. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
