I think the majority of your analysis of the problems with the case and jury are
well founded.
Based on these problems I think this case HAS to go to appeal.
Samsung has pretty much been steamrolled and I think can do better on appeal.
Putting the money into bond will be expensive, but to let it stand more so.
Samsung has sufficient funds to play another hand.
There will be no settlement at this point.
Google will not be pleased, the war between them and Apple continues and this
battle gives momentum to "Apple can do no wrong" perspective. It would
be better if Apple did not carry this advantage for when they finally meet
Google on the "Boss" level of the game.
IANAL, but I have played a few games. (-;

Some of the price of my G Note will be going to Apple, oh
well.
I was not confused. I often recommend Apple to non-IT-savvy
people. Myself, I like to mess with computer guts, so
Android's thin skin is for me. Although Amazon did a nice
tidy GUI for the Kindle Fire.
So sad for Samsung. I hope they manage to keep thriving.
They make good gear and have some chops, so to speak.

The foreman told a court representative that the jurors had reached a decision
without needing the instructions.
What chance somebody somewhere
notices that a non-tech non-legal jury
doesn't stand a snowball's chance in
that hot place of making a sensible verdict
on a smorgasbord of charges like
