Through its superpower status and the gullible US fandom
among foreign multicountry federation lawmakers (EU and
their wannabee Asian and African counterparts), US lunacy of
this kind is very contagious.
First there is the runaway embedding of bad IP law in
secretly negotiated "trade agreements" such as TRIPS and
ACTA. Recent rumors have the New Zealand government backing
off a law against software patents due to alleged US
pressure in such secret negotiations.
Here in EU we are seeing repeated attempts to hand over
patent jurisdiction to the EPO, which blindly copies every
USPTO mistake and repeatedly tries (sometimes succeeds) to
trick politicians into passing their illegal actions (such
as issuing software patents contrary to a treaty clause
banning them) into law.
