I've forgotten the 1st news group app I used, but it was included with OS/2, but
it wasn't very good. I soon switched to Netscape, which had email and news
reader, in addition to browser. It supported clicking on a URL Also, back in
the late 90s, I was working at IBM and in PROFSĀ¹ (with Personal Communications),
you could click on a URL in a message and have a browser open.
1) PROFS was an online system that included email, calendar, news and more. It
ran on IBM mainframe computers and was used with a "green screen"
terminal. Personal Communications was a 3270/5250 emulator that ran on OS/2 and
Windows. IBM had several internal news groups in addition to those on the net.
They were available through PROFS.
