Actually, yes. I have looked at a Honda and Toyota next to one another. My
wife owns a Toyota, and for a while I owned a Honda. Strangely we had no
difficulty telling our cars apart, despite the fact that they were the same
color (black), and were the cross-brand 'equivalents' (her Camry and my
Accord).
Yes, many models of cars look *similar*, but across manufacturers (not just
brand, because, for example, Ford and Mercury are the same company), they don't
look *that* similar. Above and beyond the certain bits of trade dress (aside
from logos) which serve to unite differing classes of vehicle within the same
brand (Jeep's classic grill, for example).
I may not be able to tell you what particular brand a specific car is without
being able to see the logos, but I have no difficulty telling two different cars
apart, even back 25-30 years when most of them were variously angled boxes on
