There's also lubuntu if the objective is to avoid the browser in Unity.

It's a legit point - if badly worded

If you're using an operating system, you've already made a trust decision
whether you want to admit it or not.

It's more or less equivalent to "if you don't trust canonical you probably
shouldn't be using ubuntu".

Boneheaded

I'm going to rank this right up there with Romney's 47% comments. People were already complaining about their security and he just poured salt on their wounds.

Trust Shuttleworth? Not so much.
Authored by: Kilz on Tuesday, September 25 2012 @ 12:56 PM EDT
It took a long time to come to the conclusion that Mark
Shuttleworth or perhaps the people he surrounds himself with
are not deserving of my trust.
I fell in love with Ubuntu when I first started using Linux.
Dapper Drake 6.06 was easy to use, the Ubuntu site had lots
of documentation and the forums were a refreshing change
from the first 2 distro's I had tried.
I liked the 64bit version but it needed help. So I jumped in
with both feet and posted 6k posts in hleping others run the
64bit version with 32bit applications that were needed but
the developers refused to add.
The first crack in the glass came when they closed the 64bit
section of the forums and when I went to help people in
different sections the mods became hypersensitive protecting
newbies.
The second crack was when they started banning old time
users for speaking out against Unity calling it Unity
bashing.
I left the forums and rarely posted there. I found other
distro's were not that bad and as long as I stayed with
Debian based ones I was happy.
Does it supprise me that Shuttleworth is not going to pull a
bait and switch? Not really after what I had been through I
know him and his friends are no good for Linux. Eventually
the rest of the world will figure this out. If this doesnt
do it, perhaps his next move will.

Xubuntu, the elegant and easy-to-use operating system.
