Apple Pie was made American simply because it was so British :)
Once pips carefully brought over from Europe had grown into fruit bearing trees
"Americans" could return to the puddings their ancestors had been
enjoying for hundreds of years (well after the trees were producing enough
apples for some to be left over after making cider anyway!). Over time of course
different groups of Americans varied the pies to suit their own cultures and
surroundings, but we Brits (and most other Europeans) still love our apple pies
:)
