You don't seem to understand that Sweden is a
sovereign country that has never had any particular
ties to the United States, nor any love for it.
We're on speaking terms and don't really have any
quarrels, but any branch of Swedish government
assisting in placing Assange under US custody for
no good reason (and the US really has no good
reason, they just hink he's troublesome) would be
committing political suicide. The public outcry
would be massive, and in Sweden, the opinion of
the people does matter - a lot.
Sentencing Assange in Sweden for rape would be a
different matter. Most Swedes would probably accept
a conviction as an indication of guilt. We are not
gullible, we just have good reasons to trust our
court system. It works. Mostly. At least it's
not corrupt, nor is it run by foreign influences.
I may of course get to eat my words here, but if I
were innocent, I would have absolutely no problem
with submitting myself to the Swedish police for
an investigation. I trust my government, and I
have god reasons to do so. Sweden, while not
perfect in any way, is nice. Assange has lived
here, he even considered moving here at one point,
so he really ought to know that.
