Not at all. The US confirmed they wanted Julian a long time ago. IIRC several
high ranking officials made public statements to that effect. I'm reasonably
sure that even a grand jury has been confirmed.
The problem is, they really can't find a law he's broken. So the US can't
extradite Julian from anywhere. I think he's too much of a public figure just
to vanish. So that left the US with only one option. They just played to his
paranoia and convinced him to lock himself up in a little room in London. The
UK is providing the guards. So the US gets what it wants for free.
I have no doubt that if certain elements in the US government thought that they
could get away with it, then he would already have vanished.
I also don't doubt that if the US government could find a law he had broken that
wasn't a joke, even one from the 1700's, they would be trying to extradite him.
They just haven't been able to find one.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

On a side note -- there's an interview on YouTube that
Assange recently did with Noam Chomsky and Tariq Ali.
See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4iJjtEMamjc .
In my opinion as solid company as you can get. Not popular
though, and that's for obvious reasons.
