I started off admiring him and feeling supportive of him. I kept up with all the
news about him.
After a while, in keeping up with the news, and observing him, I formed the
opinion that he is a schmuck.

I don't see why there's an expectation that Assange is some
perfect guy - but I don't see it acceptable that someone that
whether or not he is altruist is put into question by claims
that have not been validated anywhere.
That is back to situations where someone is accused of murder,
but found not guilty at trial. It's one or the other folks -
people may have their own opinions, but the law is what it is
at the end of the day. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Whether he's an altruist or not, does not mean he deserves to be executed or
locked up for the rest of his life for releasing incriminating secret documents.
If we apply that standard we're going to have go out and execute a lot of
journalists. The person who broke Watergate comes to mind.
Whether he's a nice guy or a jerk has nothing to do with whether he has a right
to expect fair treatment. Heck , we might as well shred every legal treatise on
the subject from the latest Democratic Constitution back to the Code of
Hammurabi if we are going to have one set of laws for the people we like and
another set for those we don't like.
