I have several devices and cables with micro USB on the device end, and they are
standing up to wear very well, much better than the 2mm diameter power connector
used on some things, which bend or break rather easily, and for which
replacements do not seem to be available from any supplier that I know, so you
have to buy a complete charger or whatever just because the plug is broken. I
agree, mini USB was rather poor, and of course standard USB is just too big for
many things. Also, micro USB may be wired for OTG, so your item equipped with it
can behave as both a host and a device, as required, if implemented in the
software. The micro connector has an extra pin to make that possible. Not
everything that the EU does is wise, but the decision to standardise on micro
USB for phone chargers is one of their more sensible. Apple, on the other hand,
are not. And, the EU is investigation them for other reasons.... [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
