I also use Calibre to manage my ebooks for my Kindle.
While I quite like the Kindle hardware, I'm not such a fan of
being locked in to Amazon, and, in fact, only 2 of my 60-odd
ebooks have come from Amazon.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

I have never used Amazon or other similar service. The only ebooks I've bought
came from O'Reilly and are DRM free. I download the books and copy as desired
to my computers, book reader, tablet or smart phone. My other source of books
is the public library, where I download the books, which are then readable for a
period of time. Of course there are many free (cost & DRM) books available
on the Internet.
I have bought Android apps and music MP3s, but with both of those, I not only
get a copy, but a record of what I've paid for is maintained on the web site.
