You do understand the difference between Wall Street and Atlantic City don't
you? In the casinos, everyone knows the odds and has the opportunity to
understand the rules of the game. So you have a real choice of whether to bet
with or against the odds. But on Wall Street, nobody has a clue what the rules
are, let alone the odds. So you can't figure out how you are betting. Sure,
there are lots of "analysts" that try to identify and explain
causality for market swings after the fact. But how accurate are they, and why
can't they warn us before those events wipe out our 401K balance?
I'll have to work an extra five years to compensate for the recent recession. I
had originally planned to retire two years ago. That was before the value of my
Vanguard hosted 401K dropped by 25%.
