I recall reading somewhere Apple is the second largest customer (after
Facebook) and expected to become their largest customer next year. Funny thing,
you won't find mention of Apple on their web site.
Apple & Facebook Help Fusion-io Beat
Competition
Fusion’s major standing has been in flash memory
technology, where it provided servers and workstations for hosting content of
big IT consumers, like Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB), Cisco Systems, Inc.
(NASDAQ:CSCO) Apple, etc. Sterne Agee expects FIO to grow in the non-Flash
industry in the coming year, as well as benefit from the SDK kit, a new product,
and the ION software, a component for shared storage
platforms.
Fusion-io's iCloud Opportunity:
Piper Jaffray
analyst Andrew Nowinski thinks that Apple could overtake Facebook
as Fusion-io's largest customer as the company builds out its iCloud.
Fusion-io's products use a combination of flash memory and virtualization
software to improve server utilization, which improves performance and reduces
costs. It's interesting, however, that Apple and Facebook are now using
Fusion-io's products to improve storage capacity as well. That means that
Fusion-io's prospects could possibly be tied to data growth, which we know is
increasing tremendously.
Enough to make you wonder if there'll be
a new Mac Pro.
