The driving force behind the need for more performance has been games for a long
time now. Few people use a PC for serious purposes such as circuit simulation,
which needs a fast CPU and lots of RAM, compared to those who play action games.
Fewer serious users need a fast GPU. The need to satisfy gamers has benefitted
everyone in terms of performance. What I am trying to say is that it is gaming
which drives state of the art in PC hardware. If that applies also to software
(as I think it must, Linux giving higher frame rates and also disc I/O than
Windoze), the implications for M$ are very severe indeed. Beware of flying
furniture..... [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Laptops may be portable, but, between the compromised keyboard, display, and
'mouse,' I see no benefit, especially in the era of smartphones and tablets.
When I want to relax and play, a laptop just doesn't cut it. Then, when I want
to easily replace or upgrade hard drives, RAM, power supply, or motherboard...a
laptop is simply a nonstarter.
