Okay, then to clarify: the UK judge is requiring them to post a statement that
would have effects outside the jurisdiction that he is allowed to make judgments
for. Yes, his authority is recognized in Europe, and that's outside the UK, but
that's still not the whole world. If Apple just says "Samsung didn't
infringe", you can bet Samsung is going to try to use that statement to
their advantage in the US. (And in any location where there might be a
lawsuit.)
Again, imagine it the other way around: Samsung loses the suit in the US and the
judge forces them to post an admission that they infringed on Apple's patent.
Then Apple sues Samsung in the UK, and points to Samsung's admission as proof
