Even at 1920x1200, without Retina shenanigans, the notice is not initially
visible. The lowest visible elements are the row of four product category
image-links.
However, viewing it on a portrait-mode device - specifically a
Galaxy Note -
*does* reveal the notice. There is a noticeable layout error
here (the row of
four overlaps the large image, and the video links are
missing), suggesting
that Apple hasn't optimised the site for the Android
browser.
And yet on the flip side, the notice is also very "conveniently"
cut off on my
iPhone 3G. There, the two video buttons appear between the large
image and
the row of four, instead of beside the large image as on the desktop.
This
makes the row of four neatly fit at the bottom of the screen, and there
is no
permanent scrollbar to suggest anything appears below them at
all.
The notice only seems to appear on the UK-specific site, not (for
example) the
Finnish or global sites.
And now for the weird and creepy
part. The page layout changes and images
rescale when you change the browser
window size, eg. by setting it to
fullscreen or changing your monitor
resolution, so that the row or four images
is always at or very near the bottom
of the window. That's *not* a typical web
design technique. It is very
effective in keeping the notice off the screen on
first viewing, unless the
display is a high-resolution *portrait* display. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
