I'm not sure Apple's UK lawyers had any input into the matter after the ruling.
This looks like something dreamed up by some evil PR person.

...in front of the whole world! Their abuse of the broken
patent system to
patent rectangles with rounded corners and
all the attacks on Android/Samsung
were bad enough, but
fortunately for Apple the whole world is not yet totally
clued in on the brokeness of the patent system. Especially,
many still think a
patent signifies an invention, when we
all know here that it rarely represents
an invention.
So Apple has been getting away with what we recognize as
shameful behaviour in regards to patent abuse, but even
their fandom should
recognize Apple' pettiness and
recalcitrant behaviour in regards to this
notice. I don't
think being a fan would blind somebody to the fact that
Apple's response was at a minimum, disrespectful, even if
that fan "celebrates
Apple's inventiveness", as they say at
Patently Apple.
Then for Apple
to act recognizably inappropriately in
front of its fans risks them finally
cluing in to the whole
"inventiveness" myth. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

The example with the shoplifting kid is actually describing being a parent for
an autistic child. As the father of a 20-year old autist, it is... well,
familiar.
Of course, not two autists are exactly the same, but still...
Example: my son is told not to throw a stone in the lake. As the good boy he is,
he obeys and drops the stone straight away - and picks another stone up next to
it, and prepares to throw it.
When i stop him, he gets mad: "You told me not to throw the other one, and
i did just like you said!" Then follows an hour of rage and careful
explaining that it was not just one stone, but all stones that it was wrong to
throw...
Thus a peaceful lakeside sunday walk is turned into a full hour of anger,
conflict and confusion, before the boy finally grasps what i wished from him.
And he wil still, for days after, be absolutely convinced that he, somehow, was
right...
Apple is famous for their obsessive/compulsive behaviour ("Our goods are
PERFECT and nobody is allowed to change anything!"), but can a company
culture become autistic?
All in all, it looks pretty much so to me.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

I'm just as disappointed (or more) in people praising Apple's
"brilliance" in their reply, instead of calling it for what it
was.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
