First question, do you need the SD card slot? because if you
do not, I recommend waiting for the Nexus 4, as it promizes
to pack impressive innards, and be free of manufacturer
customizations, and will be maintained by Google direct
(this will mean that you'll be getting your security updates
actually on time). This obviously assumes that you can use a
GMS unlocked phone, meaning that you do not use a CDMA
carrier.
Second question, Do you use your phone one handed or two
handed? The S3 may be more amenable to one handed operation
(but can be used one handed, but you'll not like using a
Note one handed, I speak from experience)
Third question, is the S-Pen (a stylus) an useful accessory?
It will allow you to actually draw and write on the screen,
with minimum hassles, but for normal (one handed) operation,
it is really not necessary. It's quite good for two handed
operation though (and it obviously requires two handed
operation). One benefit that no one seems to speak of, is
that it will trigger "mouseover" behaviour on websites (at
least using Chrome or Opera). Mind you, the screen is quite
responsive with or without the S-Pen. Me, my artistic skill
is actually negative, meaning that I'm not getting much out
of it. (In fact, my original Note is on ebay to provide
funds for the Nexus 4).
What are you going to do with it? For normal operations,
both pack more than enough horsepower. If you're only using
it for web browsing, email, messaging, etc etc, the Note may
offer you more screen real state.
You say that cost isn't the problem, and between those two
behemoths, the difference isn't that big. I'm not here to
extol the benefits of prepaid and/or MVNOs, but if you're on
Verizon/AT&T/Sprint, I suggest that you check how much you
end up paying for the duration of the contract, vs how much
you would end up paying if you got the device unlocked, and
went for cheaper plans offered by the competition, plus the
cost of the unlocked device.
Warning, Samsung will want you to install the Kies desktop
program. It is similar to iTunes, only it's even more annoying to use, and would
be completely unnecessary if it
wasn't because it is also used for system updates (mind you,
recent Samsung phones, including the two you mention, can
also get them OTA, like the rest of the Android universe is
doing)[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
