Difference is that the NT kid is capable of making a illogical conclusion - when
Mom says to think about making something the last game, plan on getting ready
for bed. The ASD kid won't even realize that the two are connected.
When you have ASD, you end up with a whole list of specific rules that you're
expected to try to abide by. And when you try to apply Rule A-3-2-5 to Situation
A-3-2-7 and it doesn't work, after your parent or spouse or buddy spends some
length of time explaining just why Rule A-3-2-5 doesn't work in that situation -
EVEN THOUGH THEY SEEM LIKE THE SAME SITUATION - you end up with Rule A-3-2-7.
And that's if you're HF. I can't even imagine what it's like for those farther
along the spectrum. The world is confusing and almost overwhelmingly frustrating
enough for me, and I'm able to pass as NT in casual encounters.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Is it autism when the end stage is a howling rage? Crap. Gotta think about
this.
