You're right that Apple will be able to pay any likely fine from this with ease
but that's not what's important in this case.
It's also not really comparable to Microsoft vs Stac Electronics, etc. Microsoft
had already eliminated the competition in those cases before they were taken to
task.
Apple faces strong competition and are desperately trying to stop it getting
stronger. In fighting this in the manner they are, Apple are both destroying
their own reputation and drawing attention to how good their competitors'
products are. Those two things will have a far bigger affect on Apple's finances

Which America, with its emphasis on "due process", emphatically fails
to achieve.
Samsung may not be happy with Apple's shenanigans, but Apple is likely to pay
very heavily for them.
We don't generally have big bullies driving the little people bankrupt over here
- chances are the bully will bankrupt themself, and they know it!
