There is no reliable definition of Intelligence let alone IQ. The current
testing methods are heavily culture limited and don't measure very much at all.
How would the individual who made the first bow and arrow fare? And, that's just
one illustration there are many more.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

I have always been bothered with "IQ" tests
focusing on finding one logically correct answer.
It tests logic isolated from creativity, and that
kind of smarts is not terribly valuable in the real
world. As one commenter put it: you can be a member
of Mensa but be "creatively bankrupt".
What I consider "intelligence" requires creativity.
Sadly, that is a difficult and time consuming thing
to test. It certainly requires a lot more than
multiple choice questions.
In the spirit of the linked blog post, a more proper
test for an inquisitive mind would be to ask the
respondent to find reasons for *each* of the animals
in the list to be the odd one out, and motivate it
briefly. The examiner would have to be creative and
open minded as well, but the test would focus on
something very different from the standard IQ tests,
and in my opinion something much more relevant.

My math instructor in high school didn't think much of IQ tests...
His short tale was about having to take a psych class, where the students had to
take an IQ test.
Being a mathematician (and having been through the statistical analysis), he
understood how the analysis of the IQ test worked.
So he skipped any slightly difficult questions, but stayed below the
"skipped too many".
His IQ evaluated to something over 170...[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
