But this provides Samsung a reason for the judge to inquire into these things.
His statements alone may not have been enough given the strong prohibitions
aginst intruding into the jury room.

I don't think this is dragging away from the
central issue. It's part of the big picture.
Samsung are just piling more smelly things on
top of an already stinking pile of indications
of bias and juror misconduct. Not a bad strategy,
in my opinion.
At some point the smell becomes unbearable to
the judge, and she calls the jury foreman back
for an interview.
