Evidence based policy (EBP): What a refreshing thought!
It could completely
transform policy on a broad range of
issues. It must be a very frightening
concept to incumbents
though. They will be an obstacle to change.
Add
to that a thought that crossed my mind the other day
when reading about the US
election coverage. I think the
principal candidates, Obama and Romney spent
what was it, 1
or 2 billion dollars? Whatever, it wasn't that much that it
is
inconceivable that campaign financing be paid by the
government instead of the
private sector. Then with one fell
swoop, politicians would no longer be
beholden to special
interests. That would change everything over night! Of
course it would be complicated to work out - who gets
subsidized and by how
much - very complicated. However, the
rewards for the effort would pay back a
thousand fold.
So now combine that notion with evidence based policy -
suddenly it's a whole new world! All the "Occupy" protests
in the world could
never bring about such a positive
transformation. A concept to die for? Are you
prepared? [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
