You mean set the various timeout limit to at least a year or so :p. Yeah, it's
not practical. Most internet based protocols require multiple acknowledgement
packets to come back before the payload even gets sent. Even SMTP would take
more than half a dozen round trips before the message is completely transmitted.
Assuming each round trip takes a day, it would take more than a week just to
send one email.
I suppose HTTP is slightly better, but the amount of time needed to wait for a
reply might not be acceptable. Though I suppose sending multiple requests at the
same time might work better, still I imagine it would not make much sense :p.
Would be interesting to see if this test might inspire more efficient protocols
(that require much less round trips) for internet communications, specially with
less reliable wireless connections and roaming requirements.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
