The 'late father' mentioned by the judge here was Mr Justice Lloyd Jacob. For
many years he handled the bulk of the entire UK caseload of High-court patent
cases -- initially 100% of the cases and later on 50% (I suppose -- after a
second specialist judge was appointed for the patent cases). Either way, that
would be an astounding personal performance today -- and maybe it was helped by
the fact that, in those times past, there was not the inflamed and exaggerated
legal bullying and litigation-fever that prevails nowadays.
