Do you remember when babies started to die because
formulas were mixed with toxic substances that
thinned milk? It was in China, where the government
doesn't bother to regulate much at all. Remember
when the dogs and cats in the US started to die
because pet food was contaminated in China factories?
Remember the sheet rock that killed people?
Saying that government has no right to regulate
companies is to say that the above incidents are
nothing the government should stick its nose into.
But most people can clearly see, without a PhD,
that this is *exactly* where the government should
get involved, because only it has the power to make
it stick, and since the government is just us, the
people, our representatives, we ask it to do things
that will protect us, our babies and our pets. Etc.
You are arguing that a company's private interest
in making money with interference is more important
than everyone else's private interest in not getting
sick or losing pets and children. ANd that is
preposterous.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

I qualify it by saying it is up to me to have certain emergency
supplies and plans in place. I have water, food, gasoline, a generator, gas
heaters, batteries, flashlights oil lamps, and radios. I weigh what the cost of
having this weigh the risk when I get in my car and drive to go see a film or
the risk when I buy a Chevy Corvair instead of a Volvo. If someone is unprepared
for a disaster, say tornadoes 'cause that is the danger where I live, then yes,
the deaths of those who die because they were not prepared is
acceptable.
Your are most fortunate indeed, to be able to
afford for yourself, such pre-preparedness without government legalisation. The
'force' must be with you verily Anakin – until you loose your job, savings and
health insurance. The utility cuts off your water, you then have to pawn your
generator to buy food... etc.
I too remember the 'melamine' pet
food scandal.
Did the individual affected pet owners sort this out
themselves effectively or did it require the intervention of the FDA?
Nor I am not surprised by your resorting to the ad hominem
fallacy.
No. I explicitly stated, that I was not resorting to ad
hominem attack to defeat your rhetorical sophism but simply to say - I think
you're a twit to 'ignore' evidence that would shift your own argument – in
other words – you prefer to dwell in a state of comfortable
ignorance.
Anyway, I feel I'm drifting into Malleus Maleficarum. So I
will now desist. Feel free to post as if this never happened. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

So, you like the system where everyone is supposed to act only in their own best
interest, with no thought of ..
You know what, I'm not even going to bother. Capitalism doesn't work, and this
has been proven so many times now it's rediculous that you even think it does.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
