The high cost of entry is mostly due to a screwed up and overly paranoid
regulatory process with a badly distorted view of risk/benefit analysis.
If someone were to try and bring aspirin to market for the first time under
today's FDA it would cost billions of dollars to get it through the regulatory
process with no guarantee of approval.
Who in there right mind would even try without a guarantee that they could
