He might have picked it up from people who use English as a second language,
most of whom are very confused by things like mass nouns. That is to say, he
might have picked up the habit from outsourced programmers. They're pretty much
the only group of people who ever say that. That said, he could have picked it
up indirectly too: that is to say, from those who manage outsourced
programmers.
It's never used at all by anyone the least bit technical who speaks English as a
first language.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

I have the source code to a program to extract data from a file. I have another
source code to another program to reformat the information in files.
So in total I have two source code/s/ above. In fact I have more source codes.
One directory contains at least 15 different source codes.
I see no problem in using "source codes" or "millions of source
codes" (I am born and bred in England with English as my first language) -
just that it "doesn't quite mean what you think it does" (to
[mis]quote a brilliant film).[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

For a brief moment, I thought that we could make the Mcbride a unit of
sourcecode, but then reality came back to me. Although the McBride would be
equal to the 'mountain' of source code that SCOX sued the world over, that
mountain didn't exist. So, a McBride would not be an existing mountain of
source code but a nonexistent mountain, instead.
Look! I have beeeeellions of McBrides of code in my desk drawer!!![ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
