Apples battery shorts?

> Chinese batteries don't seem of high quality.

As with most things of Chinese origin, there is very good stuff to be had, and
very bad stuff as well. Most stuff falls somewhere in-between.

The difficult bit, IME, is telling the good from the bad before you get hold of
it...

And of course that is quite a problem when you manufacture a
product without a removable battery...

LiPo batteries
Authored by: Anonymous on Sunday, November 25 2012 @ 11:30 PM EST
LithiumPolymer batteries have a number of safety/failure factors during manufacture, storage, transport, and abuse by the operator. I read detailed analyses of a Toshiba and an Apple problem, but didn't keep copies, now there's too much noise in the channel... ISTR Toshiba's problem came from internal thermal cycling causing physical damage to the electrode separator material; and Apple's from unauthorised substitution of a lower priced, lower purity chemical component.

There's a rather dry description of what to do after they catch fire Fire Protection Engineering , a slightly more exciting ppt/pdf of how they blow stuff up from faa.gov , and adding fuel to the unfortunate flames at least one of the devices on the manifest was identified as "Android" in this interim report(PDF) on the loss of a plane full of batteries at Dubai, September 2010.
