Bingo. Just what MS/Apple wanted. Stop the existing people who'd spent the
billions on R&D getting their money back after creating the actual tech, and
charge them to use bouncy effects/sd-cards.

Rubbish. SEP are a mixture of a small minority that may be fundamental
and important and a great number that are one choice of many to perform a
process that the patent owner persuaded the standards committee to adopt
(possibly in horse trading with others to get their patents in different areas
of the spec).
Note that I haven't looked at Google's patents and don't actually judge the
importance of the patents but the deduction that they should be
valuable/important because they are standards essential is wrong.
Also do you realise that both MS and Apple have H.264 standards
essential patents licenced through MPEG-LA. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
