If you want to give a Windows user that you love a bit of an intervention, give
them a copy of Windows 8 and a Kubuntu CD. Actually, Fedora, Kubuntu, Xubuntu,
Bhodi, etc. would work equally well, as long as it is not a current Ubuntu CD.
Although I know that someone out there has to actually like Unity, I haven't met
them yet online or in real life. Not only that, but I have had good luck with
migrating people to Linux unless Unity is involved. Only
barely did I salvage one transition by getting a copy of KDE4 onto the laptop
before the user could reinstall Windows 7.
Most users that I have helped actually seemed most grateful, although they
regretted not making the change sooner. That is, as long as we keep Unity out
of the equation.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Retail stores' print ads in New Zealand for Win8 phones and laptops
place the devices among all other brands, same size, color.
One notable exception yesterday a half-tabloid page ad for
the previously unheard of Acer Iconia W510 tablet, Atom 2760, Win8,
10.1" IPS multi-touch, 1366x768, 600 grams, from NZ$899 (~$US765),
with a row of retailers logos along the bottom hinting Redmond paid.

Give anything other than a positive review, and you can forget getting any
of it. That's why the few remaining Indies have panned it, but most of the
corporate sites claim to love it.
