But it requires the UI to be able to reconfigure itself for the user interfaces
available - Use a tablet style when only tablet interfaces are available, use
desktop when only desktop interfaces are available - And allow either when both
are available as chosen by the user.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

What is needed here is a "Xerox PARC" to give the
development of the
desktop a push forward.

For the last couple of years, I've had it in the back of my mind that we are
approaching a new watershed. The current GUI's are amazing but I suspect that
soon a "Xerox PARC" like advance will evolve, if only because of the
necessity of need. It goes without saying, that most great ideas are dreamt up
by amateurs first, before they get taken up and patented by the mob. If
"Xerox PARC" had not existed the GUI would still have evolved, because
that is how we naturally interact. Therefore, I think the next interface is just
around the corner. It makes it all the more important that those bright sparks
who do the dog-work and burn the midnight oil, ensure that it remains in the
common domain. We must do our part, to ensure they have the right legal tools
to do that - without recourse to expensive lawyers.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
