The results are interesting. I also find it interesting that they want to
categorize your usage based on your *hometown*, i.e. where you grew up. Yet I
grew up calling all soft drinks "Coke" and didn't bat an eye asking
somebody "what kind of Coke" (i.e. Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, Coke, etc) they
wanted. Yet my usage has switched to "pop" and using "Coke"
generically would now seem very foreign to me. (Yet my hometown didn't change
in the process!) Some of the switch may have come about from moving to a
different state yet I remember even before I moved becoming uncomfortably aware
that I was using a Trademark as a generic term as a result of being around
somebody who consistently used "soda pop" for the generic term.
Perhaps that "tiny sliver of Nevada" that uses "Coke" for
the generic term is a sample of one![ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
