Wonder if there's still time to get this into Fedora 18?
I've tried the
Fedora 18 Beta. Good news:
- They've fixed the memory leak in
RhythmBox by advancing to version 2.98.
- Fullscreen games like Vavoom no
longer crash X11, although on the system I tried it generated some really
strange video artifacts. Maybe just a problem with the Intel video
driver.
Bad news:
- Could not make an install USB with
livecd-iso-to-disk -- it booted and ran Anaconda, but reported the USB
as
not valid to install from, and soon after I started it anyway the
installer crashed. Waaaah!
- Does not work with manual partitioning -
apparently does not recognize partitions assigned to Fedora 18,
and couldn't
find enough free space since I had already partitioned the whole disk for
Fedora 18. Still makes
/boot and / WAY too big when allowed to
auto-partition. Who needs 50 GB on /?
- Can't select multiple desktop
managers within Anaconda.
- MATE Desktop is listed as an option, but
missing or incomplete repositories prevent install.
- Very poor install
option capability compared to Fedora 12->17 -- no way to select individual
applications and
packages, fonts, or even install Emacs. I'm all for giving
the noobs a simpler interface, but let those who know
what we're doing still
get to the advanced one!
Well that's what I've found so
far.
