The public domain is stuff that really has no license and
anyone can use it as they see fit because the public now
owns it. That would be like releasing the software and
saying its free do with it as you wish with no strings
attached. Public domain is more often used with copywrited
works that the copyright has expired. Perhaps this will
happen in the future with GPL software, but we are a long
way aya from that (95 years and a day from release).
GPL software in the post you replied to will remain GPL
software in the versions released under the GPL. There are
requirements under that license that if you use it and add
to it the result becomes GPL software.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
