Every child should be taught gun safety
Authored by: myNym on Wednesday, December 26 2012 @ 07:44 PM EST
Yes, I have kids, even a grand-kid.

I taught my kids gun safety.

That doesn't mean I just read the list and handed them a
loaded gun.

They were carefully supervised when they were young. They
were taught respect for life, and proper respect of the
potential danger of a gun.

One of them has served in the military.

Those safety lessons I learned from my father, and he from
his.

No gun accidents in five generations. No crazies. No
loonies. Just kind decent folk who respect life and
liberty.

Gun safety is a good thing for everyone to learn.

Every child should be taught gun safety

But you miss the point.

The point is to teach them. If you don't teach them anything how will they
learn?

I teach my daughter gun safety. I teach my daughter not to talk to strangers. I
teach my daughter to cross the street safely. I teach my daughter about
reproduction. When the time comes I will teach how to prevent reproduction. And
so on. Do I expect she will obey everything I teach?

Definitely not, but if I don't teach she will learn another way. At least I do
what I can. It is our duty as parents to prepare our children, the best we can.

So I teach her. Everything I can. Including gun safety.
