I'll second that. While I don't have kids, I was brought into it the same way
(watched like a hawk), as was his father, his father's father, and so on.
People who do not know and understand the tool they are using, should take the
time to learn it. A parent who gives his child any kind of tool should be
vigilant to the degree necessary to ensure that no one is hurt (whether that
tool be a screwdriver, hammer, saw, gun, step-up transformers, cars, mopeds,
4-wheelers, bicycles, skateboards, boat, etc.)
This is just one of those "common sense" things that I some parents
don't want to take the time for and therefore neglect to in-still the same in
their kids (or maybe just didn't have the common sense themselves to think about
it).
I know, I'm lucky to have the parents that I had. I owe most of my character
and wisdom to their own wisdom, perseverance and foresight. I wish every child
could be so lucky.
